About heimoi
Heimoi is a location-aware social hub. An outlet for and by locals to connect and spread ideas within the city. The goal is to help you make more of your life wherever you live by tapping into the local talent pool. Share. Network. Do good.
A view to your neighborhood and city. Location at heart.
From sign up onwards we ensure that all content has location information*. No additional work required. Local views will be provided automatically to your neighborhood and city. City pages made simple (the best search is the one you did not have to do).
Citizen journalism. News are made by people.
Heimoi is hybrid media. It aims to become an exceptional, timeless local "magazine" with your help to share topics of interest to you as life unfolds. The past. The present. The future. All here.
"I've lived here for a year. I know nobody in my block."
"Thousands of people live nearby. Nothing ever happens." Sound familiar?
Effortless communication
Blogging, microblogging, instant messaging, email... we have the tools, with the difference of enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio to help locals spread ideas faster, more efficiently!
Have an idea that requires a budget from 100 to 1000 dollars/euros?
Get in touch with the locals, you might not be alone with your idea.
Ambitious goals. Now, what does heimoi mean?
Comes from finnish words (hei = hi!, moi = goodbye!), storytelling the beginning and the end of a discussion, where the gap in-between is filled by you. It is also slang for tribes.
We want to make cities come alive online, offering everything that is easy to miss during one's daily life. To show the happenings and sentiments in the city, on street level. To make the neighborhood more self-aware. To find like-minded people, currently strangers, in the vicinity.
For anyone to not feel like a stranger in a city, ever, even if one just arrived.
